El Elefante y La Paloma translates to “the elephant and the dove” which is the nickname for Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera. Frida Kahlo always created art that went against societies normal views and challenged people to think. As a woman and as an artist, she always painted what was real to her, even if it was not considered beautiful or happy. In creating this design, inspiration was drawn from the earth tones and natural elements in Frida Kahlo’s paintings. The design incorporates a mix of steampunk style with Victorian inspired delicate lace details. The bodice of the design is hand painted using one of Frida Kahlo’s works which can be seen on the mood board. This jacket is created for women that want to pay respect to Frida Kahlo’s work and legacy in a modern way.
